Career

Dalilah Muhammad got good recognition for her skills from a young age and started getting coaching since the age of 7. During her high school days, she won many track an field events and participated in high jump, sprints and hurdles race. She was the New York State Champion and Nike Outdoor Nationals Champion in 2008 in the 400 m hurdles category.

She was also part of International tournaments like World Youth Championships in Athletics and got the gold medal in 2007. In the same year, she also won the Gatorade Female Athlete of the year award for New York state. She later got a sports scholarship and joined the University of Southern California in 2008.

During her college days, she participated with USC Trojans track team and won silver medal at Pacific 10 Conference meet. In the 100 meter hurdles, she also set a personal best record of 13.79 seconds in that event. During the NCAA Outdoor Championship, she set the record of 56.49 seconds in the 400 meters hurdles category.

In the year 2009, Dalilah Muhammad became the Pan American Junior Athletics Championships. In the next two years, she finished in the second place in that tournament. When her college career came to an end, she was the third fastest ever 400 m hurdles athlete. She later turned professional after her college education.

The professional career of Dalilah started well with her debut in IAAF Diamond League and she also set a good impression at Shanghai Golden Grand Prix. She improved her best to less than 55 seconds by this time. In the Memorial Primo Nebiolo tournament in Italy, she won the gold medal and got the bronze medal at Bislett Games in Norway.

The year 2013 was very good for her as she set the personal record of less than 54 seconds at USA Outdoor track and field Championships. This was her first national medal in the 400 meter hurdles category. She associated with Nike in 2013. The Year 2016 saw her win the Gold Medal at Summer Olympics. She later improved her personal best to less than 53 seconds.

AT USA Outdoor Track and Field championships in 2019, she broke the world record in 400 m hurdles with 52.20 seconds timing. She also won the gold at World Championships in that year and set a new world record of 52.16 seconds. She won the Jackie Joyner Kersee Award in that year.
