Career

Gordon Elliot started his career by working as an assistant for Tony Martin. Gordon assisted Tony during his free time on holidays and also started working with the trainer during weekends. This was when Gordon was just 13 years old. After working for over few years with his trainer, Elliot got the licence to work as a amateur jockey and started riding horses on the racecourse. He initially participated in the point to points category.

At the age of 16, Gordon had won his won race at Ballinrobe event. In the ear 1998, he got his big success with the victory at “Punchestown Champion bumper” on King’s Road. He was able to secure more than 5 victories in other countries including the US. He had a total 200 point to point victories and other 46 titles.

In 2005, Gordon decided to end his career as a jockey as he wanted to become a trainer. He got the licence in the next year and managed to win the Perth race event in the same year. When he managed to secure victory at Grand National in the year 2007, he was the youngest trainer in the category.

However, he managed to secure his first victory in Ireland in the year 2007. He trained Torad Road and managed to secure the first victory. The interesting thing about his training was that he was very good with jumps and had a good track record in that category. However, he also got victories with flat.

After having a successful career as a trainer, he managed to rent a yard in his hometown and started his own training facility. This had over 200 horses and other facilities required for racecourse training including a pool. The training facility was setup in a massive 78 acre farm in County Meath area. This was in 2011 and he was able to secure good victories after this setup.

Gordon regularly participated in the Cheltenham Festival events and managed to win several titles. Some of his top victories include Cheltanham Gold Cup in the year 2016 and National Hunt Chase Challenge. He got recognition as the top trainer for many years.
